To work

I posted last night about having ideas to write about but not actually doing any work on them. I’m hoping that today will mark the beginning of a change. I have the day off. I’ve done most of the errands I need to do today as well, except for one more trip to the store to get some greenery. When I get back I’m going to sit down and write something! I actually have an idea but it’s too amorphous to talk about at the moment. Once I have a a couple pages of it down on digital ink it will start to cohere into something. If that happens I’ll tell you about it. If not then… That’s the way things go. I’ll set it aside for awhile so that it can ferment, work on something else, and come back to it later.

Here are the writing goals for today though:

  1. Write/Start a poem
  2. put story idea down (watery)
  3. Review death story idea
  4. edit/review poetry scraps

The next post here will be that list again but thinks marked off.

Getting my hands green

I’m about a quarter of the way through the Better World Handbook. Every page I’ve read so far has notations on it, sometime numerous and a score or more of the pages are dog-eared so that I can refer to them quickly later. I went shopping for groceries with Diana today. Thinking about vegetables and such reminded me of what the authors had to say on eating and food. In front of the co-op there were numerous seedlings. I mentioned to Diana that we should try and grow some vegetables. We talked it over and though it’s just a tiny apartment we both would like to grow a few things. It might never save us money, it likely won’t, but, it will bring us closer in some ways to our food, and nature. I’ve spent too much time not getting my hands dirty or green and this will be a good way to ease back into it. Oh, I might learn something as well… We’ll be planting some tomatoes, chilies, and herbs. I’m excited about the idea and if anything grows I will let you know.

Lots of thoughts but not very much time spent on them…

I have about a dozen ideas to write about here, but I don’t want to put half baked ideas and thoughts up here. Now that I am writing here on a more consistent basis I want to start making sure that my posts have some content to them, that there is a reason to read what it is I am putting up here. I need to start reclaiming my time for this to happen. Reclaiming it from those great wasters the internet and television. I spend entirely too much time in front of this screen accomplishing nothing. I sit here and slowly watch time vanish. This needs to end.

In other news, I’ve signed up for the Davis Masters Swim team. I think it’s a team but maybe not. Anyway, it’s like a being on a high school swim team, with a grumpy coach and everything. This is exactly what I need because I cannot force myself to work out. I’ll let you know how this progresses. I am being positive.

Politics and other vile Things

So the Republicans held another masturbatory session the other night. The only thing worth mentioning was Ron Paul. The only man up on the stage who seems to have his own values on his mind and not the latest poll numbers. Not that I trust Politician, but if the man even did 1/4 of what he says he’d like to do, he’d be the best president in the United States since John Adams #2. It wouldn’t hurt anyone to do some research and check the man’s platform out, because you sure won’t hear anything from the media.

The best thing to do with this election and every election in the United States is to be an educated voter and to take your citizenship seriously and go out and vote. Vote for what you believe in, not for who you think will win… The powerful will only start to change when they can see the wind changing!
