Beer of the Week 21: Scrimshaw

North Coast Brewing Company's Scrimshaw

From the bottle:

Named for the delicate engravings of nineteenth century seafarers, this is a fresh-tasting pilsner-style beer brewed in the finest European tradition, with a subtle hop character, a clean, crisp palate and a dry finish.

Water, malted barley, hops, yeast & that’s all.

From my notes:

Pours a beautiful straw color, with very little head that quickly dissipated, no lacing. Smells of citrus, cut grass and malt. Has a pleasant, almost subtle, floral taste with a very mild hop finish. Light bodied and very dry.

One of my favorite Pilsners

Great example of what a Pilsner beer is supposed to be. A light and very refreshing beer. And, that isn’t a surprise  as it has  won a number of awards. If you’ve never had it you should definitely give Scrimshaw a try.

Beer of the Week #17: Allagash White

From their site:

Our interpretation of a traditional Belgian wheat beer. Brewed with a generous portion of wheat and spiced with coriander and Curacao orange peel, this beer is fruity, refreshing and slightly cloudy in appearance.

From the bottle:

Our interpretation of a traditional Belgian wheat beer. Allagash White delicately balances full flavor with a crisp, refreshing taste and subtle hints of spice. Naturally cloudy. Bottled with yeast.

From my notes:

Pours cloudy blonde with a nice head, good lace, smells of lemons, grass, spice, and some yeast. High carbonation. orange peel and clove highlights the flavor, crisp finish. Very smooth no bitterness.

A great example of a wheat beer: super light but with enough flavor and spice to stand up to whatever foods you want to share it with. This would be an excellent beer to have with what ever it is you’re grilling

Talking Time (TT), the only on-line community worth being part of, has a winter gift exchange every year. Members of the forum sign-up and then we do a secret santa style exchange, though Festivus, as we call it, is full of in-jokes and TT only memes. I’ve been doing Festivus for three years now and it continues to be one of the highlights of the Winter season! This year my Festivus gifts came all the way from England!

A Festivus Story

It was a sunny Winter morning, much like any other, as always I sent my loyal pup, Jake, out to get the mail. It took him longer than usual and when he got back I understood why it was a giant box! Tuckered out Jake collapsed on the parcel before I could even open it!

It was a package! From a stranger in the far off land of the Engles! I quickly tore into the thing! Continue reading “Festivus Miracle 2012! Internet Gift Exchange Loot”
