Let’s Play the Secret of Monkey Island, Part 14

Recruiting

The first person I think about when it comes to recruiting a crew to save the Governor is the swordmaster! I mean it’s not like Guybrush is going to be able to fight people off:

We give her the bad news:

“Yes! Only one more crew member!”

Guybrush get’s so excited he rushes to the dock to purchase a ship, (also cause I’m having trouble remembering who the last crewmember is and where to find him…)

We just got here and I already feel slightly sick and worn down. Stan really, really, really likes to talk.

Oh, good because I was worried about that…

They Always Get You on the Undercoat

Stan says he has just the ship for a frugal captain looking for the most ship at the lowest price.

I’m sure this will end well…

“Well, it’s not exactly my money…”

“Exactly!”

Haggling

Guybrush wants the ship, Stan wants to sell the ship, Stan knows Guybrush wants to buy it. All that’s left is settling on a price. Easy right?

Right?

I just said this Stan…

Do we have to?

Not really.

Of course there is.

Please sell me this ship before I kill myself.

Still Haggling

In what I can only imagine is prep for hell Guybrush is still trying to negotiate for the price of the ship.

WHAT?!

Yes! You did! Please don’t make me do this all over again?

Well, a hundred years ago there was some discussion about Guybrush purchasing this ship. But, I don’t know now.

Not good. Really bad actually.

You tell him Guybrush! Walk away!

Down to Brass Tacks

Guybrush does need a ship and Stan is the only one selling them, maybe we can get him to come down some.

Making Stan give you offers is essential to completing this puzzle, by the way…

That’s closer to what Guybrush can afford. Now we can counter

Not a penny more. Mostly because we don’t have anymore pennies than that.

Captain of the Sea Monkey

And, finally, with that Guybrush is the owner of a fine, partially sunk, ship. AND the Captain of a crew of two! We just need to find one more!

Confession: When I first played this game I kept coming back here once I’d found all the crew and wondering why I couldn’t board the ship and get on with the narrative and the game. Turns out when Stan says dock he means the same place where Le Chuck tried to drown Threepwood. Anyway, back to Stan:

Where are we going to find that last crewmember? On the way out Guybrush tries the grog machine:

But nothing… Anyway, next time I’ll scour the island looking for the last member of the crew before I have a “doh!” moment!

TO-DO

-confront LeChuck
– Become a Pirate
– get a ship
– get a crew (1 more)
– Kiss the Governor.
